Research Report
Product – CD cover
I researched the product using my own collection of albums and the Internet. Also I held a focus group with the target audience. These provided valuable research as I found out what had already been done and what was popular as well as what the target audience want.
The focus group, liked my main idea although they agreed that one of my other samples would stand out better for the target audience and will be more eye catching. They liked ideas such as photo’s of the band on the inside of the inlay. Although thought that the font of the track listings could be changed to add more effect. The ideas the focus group and other individuals I spoke to thought that it was a better idea to keep the artwork simple and away from just images of the band.
For secondary research I examined many of the CD cases from my own collection and many from the Internet. From this research I found out what styles many CD artworks have. Most featured the band either on the front or back cover, and showed pictures and/or lyrics on the inside of the inlay.
Conclusions being that I will change my main developed idea, and proceed with another of my samples. I will still include elements of the original idea that people thought were good.
Product – Music Video
I mostly used the internet to research similar products. As well as looking at similar products I also presented my own ideas to the potential audience to find out their views.
Secondary Research included watching music videos on sites such as youtube and bands official websites. I watched videos which were a similar type of music to what my video would be. From the research I found out things like the places that these music videos were set, and the types of themes they had. This gave me ideas on how to apply them to my music video.
As well as researching videos on the internet I also put together my ideas in a story board and shoed it to a focus group who feedback their views on my ideas. The general agreement was that it was good although they would like to see some changes. They thought that my idea of flashbacks was good, but what my flashbacks were could be changed. They agreed that the story flashing between the band performing and the journey to get there should be different.
Conclusions I draw from this research would be to follow the advice of the focus group and changed parts of the video to what the consumer would find more interesting.

AOB5 - Evaluation
To begin with if I was asked to do a task then I would probably design and make the first idea that came into my head. Now if I was asked to do a task, i would research the product, then draw up several mock ideas before seeking advice on which one would be the best to make. This would involve showing the mock ideas to the customer as well as the target audience. When we arranged lighting for photographs aspects such as lighting and camera angles were changed to give the best results. When I made my podcast I tried to make the script sound as professional as possible as well as maintaining all the facts that were needed.
My ability to work accurately has improved as I now spend much more time positioning items such as images and text so that they are perfectly placed to have the most impact. Time is spent making sure that the typeface's etc are as good and effective as they can be. Also things such as colours are much more accurately used to create the best effect.
At the start of the course, I wasn't brilliant at keeping deadlines, work may have been handed in a couple of days late. But i aim now to produce the best work I can in the deadlines I have been given and to stick to the deadlines.
The main piece of equipment I have used would be the Apple Mac. I have learned many skills on the Mac such as using the programs Photoshop and Illustrator. Other equipment and skills include using different lightning and lightning effects and making sets out of cardboard ready for a photo shoot. Other materials used would be things like CD cases, magazines etc for inspiration and ideas.
The ability to share tasks has improved my work. I have asked others on how my work can be improved and they have given me advice. Also i have supported other people by giving them ideas and advice on their work. I have also given feedback to my peers on their work, about what is good and how i think it can be improved.
I am able to work well in a team. I take in to account the thoughts of others as well as providing my own ideas. In a team I prefer to receive orders to do something rather than give them which shows I am able to work well under direction. If someone, for example the client, tells me that they would prefer me to change something, i would do it to suit their needs. During in group tasks i will do as others ask of me, for example if some lighting needs moving or if something needs changing. I am also good at, and prefer to work independently. If someone gives me a brief I will work independently to get it done although i do seek advice and feedback.
I am going on to make a music video using the my skills and the advice from the focus group. I am going to change the original idea as the focus group didn't think it would work. I will do it mostly independently but with some help with others and i will asking for advice when needed.
