AOB4 Research Report

Research Report

Product – CD cover

I researched the product using my own collection of albums and the Internet. Also I held a focus group with the target audience. These provided valuable research as I found out what had already been done and what was popular as well as what the target audience want.

The focus group, liked my main idea although they agreed that one of my other samples would stand out better for the target audience and will be more eye catching. They liked ideas such as photo’s of the band on the inside of the inlay. Although thought that the font of the track listings could be changed to add more effect. The ideas the focus group and other individuals I spoke to thought that it was a better idea to keep the artwork simple and away from just images of the band.

For secondary research I examined many of the CD cases from my own collection and many from the Internet. From this research I found out what styles many CD artworks have. Most featured the band either on the front or back cover, and showed pictures and/or lyrics on the inside of the inlay.

Conclusions being that I will change my main developed idea, and proceed with another of my samples. I will still include elements of the original idea that people thought were good.

Product – Music Video

I mostly used the internet to research similar products. As well as looking at similar products I also presented my own ideas to the potential audience to find out their views.
Secondary Research included watching music videos on sites such as youtube and bands official websites. I watched videos which were a similar type of music to what my video would be. From the research I found out things like the places that these music videos were set, and the types of themes they had. This gave me ideas on how to apply them to my music video.

As well as researching videos on the internet I also put together my ideas in a story board and shoed it to a focus group who feedback their views on my ideas. The general agreement was that it was good although they would like to see some changes. They thought that my idea of flashbacks was good, but what my flashbacks were could be changed. They agreed that the story flashing between the band performing and the journey to get there should be different.

Conclusions I draw from this research would be to follow the advice of the focus group and changed parts of the video to what the consumer would find more interesting.
